PARIS – 249 votes in favour, 97 dissenting votes. After a long debate and the discussion of hundreds of amendments, the members of the French National Assembly give the go-ahead to the new definition of the marriage as “an agreement” between two heterosexual persons or between two “same-sex” persons.
The discussion about the bill – and of the huge number of amendments that have been presented – will be probably discussed during the next two weeks.
The bill consists of 14 articles. It has been promoted by the socialists and is opposed by the centre-right and by the Catholic world. Based on the last polls, 63% of the French supports the gay marriage and 49% the adoption.
