40 years ago, the coup d’état in Chile.

SANTIAGO DE CHILE – 40 years ago, a coup d’état put an end to the Unidad Popular government guided by Salvador Allende and marked the start of the military dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet. A regime that lasted until 1990 and that made use of an extensive and accentuated violation of civil and political rights, also by means of coercion and torture.

According to the Italian news agency ANSA, the government of Chile «gave forth that 68 people have been stopped» by the security force during «the clashes burst on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the 1973 coup d’état».

«In Santiago and in the principal cities many initiatives» have been put into practice «to remember the coup d’état that brought Salvador Allende’s government to» a forced and tragic conclusion, with the «suicide of the socialist president: 7 high schools» have been «occupied by the students and Villa Francia, between the places the most marked by the dictatorship, woke up with black balloons on the trees as a sign of grief» (ANSA).
