The municipality of Srebrenica will be led by a Serbian mayor: the vote held on October 2 has been validated.

Bosnia and Herzegovina.  On Monday, the “electoral commission” would have declared “officially” valid the election of a Serbian as new mayor of Srebrenica, which “had been run […] by Muslim Bosniaks since 1999” (RTBF).

The town has been the scene of the “massacre of more than 8,000 Bosniak men and teenagers in July 1995” and the Bosniaks would have “reproached” Mladen Grujičić – the new mayor – “for not publicly saying that” such a wave of violence “was an act of genocide”.

On the occasion of the elction in Srebrenica (held last October 2) and according to the “official results”, Mladen Grujičić obtained 54,4% of the votes and Ćamil Duraković – Bosniak outgoing mayor – 45,5% (ibidem).
