Civilians remaining in the western part of Mosul (Iraq) are around “750,000”. The “beginning of the fightings in the area between the Iraqi troops and the terrorist group Islamic State (IS)” is “imminent”.
In such a situation, these persons “are facing grave risks”. As said, we are talking about civilians and the warning has been launched by the United Nations (EFE).
More precisely, Lise Grande, UN Humanitarian Coordinator for Iraq, highlighted the “danger run by civilians”, considering that the latter could be hit by the “crossfire”, become “victims of mines or be used as “human shields by the jihadists” (ibidem).
